Bio
Passionate about teaching, writing, recording, and performing music.
Dan Ryker grew up in Corvallis, OR. Music was a part of his life from an early age; singing in choirs, playing piano, musical theater, etc.
His senior year of high school, Dan unexpectedly lost his eyesight over the course of a month. He was almost completely blind for a year and a half. Then his sight unexpectedly began to come back. It was much better, but still left Dan significantly visually impaired. This has presented Dan with numerous challenges. One of them was not being able to read music any more. This caused him to begin learning to play piano by ear, eventually to start writing songs, playing guitar, & strongly effected his musical style & skills. (Dan's blog has more about his 'eye story'.)
Dan attended Willamette University for two years & graduated from Azusa Pacific University in music education. During these years there were many music groups & tours.
Dan teaches private music lessons and records music in his studio. His sound often has a satisfying groove and features his smooth yet funky vocal style. Dan’s main instruments are piano, guitar and vocals.
Dan has a wonderful wife and three awesome kids. He also enjoys being in the outdoors, doing landscaping projects in his back yard, good beer, whiskey and wine.
